Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Canada (ADRIC) will host current and former Supreme Court Justices, Ministers of Justice and renowned authors and experts in dispute resolution including indigenous leaders from across Canada for its 16th annual national conference: ADRIC 2017: ADR & Access to Justice.
The conference will be held from October 19-20, 2017 at the St. John’s Delta Hotel and Conference Centre.
ADRIC 2017 aims to provide a platform for ADR professionals and dispute resolution users (corporate counsel, government, etc) to discuss current trends and hot topics and develop best practices.
The event will feature six tracks and two keynote sessions involving in-depth conversations across a range of topics and industries. The tracks are International and Commercial Arbitration, mediation, Labour Relations and Workplace, ADR processes, Family Law, and Special Interest topics including restorative justice .
The October 19th keynote address will feature former Supreme Court Justice, Hon. Thomas A Cromwell who has been appointed by Canada’s Chief Justice McLachlan to Chair the National Action Committee on Access to Justice in Civil and Family Matters. He will be interviewed by renowned International and Commercial arbitrator William G. Horton. The interview will be conducted as a conversation on the state of access to justice, the causes of inadequate access to justice and the responsibility that various participants in the justice system have to rectify the problem.
ADRIC will also be presenting Cromwell with an Honourary Membership, “in recognition of his lifelong commitment to making justice accessible and the role of ADR processes in creating a better Canada“ said Scott Siemens, President of ADRIC.
Supreme Court of Canada Justice Malcolm Rowe will provide the October 20th keynote address, speaking on Dispute Resolution for Online Consumer Transactions. Rowe will be introduced by NL Attorney General Andrew Parsons, who will also present a session following the luncheon.
