ADRIC 2021: Culture, Conflict and Confluence – A Webinar Series
ADRIC is presenting a series of exceptional learning opportunities to enhance your professional development and acquire important CEE and CLE credits!
The ADRIC annual conference, presented again this year as online webinars due to the pandemic, will explore how we may differ; the benefits of cultural differences, whether faith, race, gender, ability, or even opinion; and how we can learn from each other and improve our practices.
Culture: Wikipedia defines culture as “an umbrella term which encompasses the social behaviour and norms found in human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, and habits of the individuals in these groups.”
Conflict: “is a clash of interest… The basis of conflict may be personal, racial, class, caste, political and international.”
Confluence is defined as flowing together, meeting, or gathering at one point.
Dispute resolution professionals generally recognize the importance of specialized training to understand and become more sensitive to cultural differences during mediation, arbitration and other dispute resolution processes. Without this understanding and respect, the process and outcome can be negatively impacted and can even lead to further conflict, tension or even trauma.
