Bryan C. Duguid KC, FCIArb

 

As counsel and as arbitrator, Bryan C. Duguid KC, FCIArb resolves power, construction, international, and other commercial disputes (usually involving tens of millions of dollars), in the arbitral, court, and regulatory arenas.

Paul Denis Godin, B.A. B.Sc. LL.B. C.Med

Paul is the founder of Katalyst Resolutions, with expertise in mediation, negotiation, investigations, conflict management systems design, and workplace/conflict coaching. He has 20 years of experience worldwide as a negotiation and conflict resolution trainer. Based in Victoria, Paul is a Chartered Mediator with ADRIC and has qualified as a roster mediator on more than a dozen panels in Canada and internationally. He is an adjunct instructor for sports law and ADR at the University of Victoria and mediates sports disputes for the SDRCC and the CAS.

Robert J. C. Deane, Partner

Rob is recognized nationally and internationally as a leading counsel in commercial litigation, international and domestic commercial arbitration, privacy, and intellectual property litigation, among other areas. He has appeared in significant arbitration proceedings in North America, Asia and Europe, under almost all major institutional sets of rules, in a wide array of industry sectors including manufacturing, technology, distribution, pharmaceuticals, energy, mining and infrastructure, as well as investor-State disputes. He has either chaired or been sole arbitrator in international and domestic proceedings involving parties throughout the world engaged in disputes arising in, among others, the distribution, patent licensing and resource sectors. Rob is the National Leader of BLG’s International Trade and Arbitration Group, and a member of the Partnership Board, the Firm’s governing body.

Oliver Martin

Oliver Martin

Oliver Martin is Director of Training for the Stitt Feld Handy Group, a division of ADR Chambers, and is a facilitator, trainer, coach and mediator. He provides Alternative Dispute Resolution, negotiation and coaching training to organizations and the general public throughout Canada, the Caribbean and the United States. Oliver is a past Director at the ADR Institute of Ontario. He received Alternative Dispute Resolution training from the University of Windsor Law School and York University.

Jim McCartney, LL.B., C.Med, C.Arb

Jim’s full-time ADR practice includes arbitration of commercial, construction and energy matters as sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator, and tribunal chair. He is chair of three pipeline arbitration committees under the NEB and serving a third term as a public member of the ICAA discipline and appeal tribunals. He is experienced in both law (senior litigation) and business (marketing company, and chair of an insurance reciprocal manager). Jim is a former president of ADRIA and a current director of ADRIC.

Myriam Seers

Myriam Seers is a founding partner at Agora Law. She is particularly passionate about working with clients who are working to develop renewable energy and critical minerals projects. She has substantial experience with disputes involving renewable energy projects, including offshore wind, onshore wind, hydroelectric and solar projects. Throughout her career, she has worked on cases involving mining projects at all phases of their life cycle, from early-stage exploration to development-stage projects to operating mines, in jurisdictions as varied as Ecuador, Mexico, Costa Rica, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar and the Kyrgyz Republic. She has extensive experience helping clients navigate the wide variety of roadblocks that can stall or stop a mining project over the course of its life, and in fearlessly advocating on clients’ behalf in arbitration or other dispute resolution forums when those roadblocks cannot be overcome.

Sara Nadeau Séguin

Sara’s practice focuses on international arbitration as well as commercial litigation.
She has extensive experience acting as counsel in complex commercial cross-border litigations and arbitrations, public international law disputes and investor-state arbitrations. She has acted as counsel in both commercial and investment arbitration proceedings relating to the fields of energy (including oil and gas), telecommunications, construction, mining, and the pharmaceutical industry. Sara is recognised by the ranking Who’s Who Legal as one of the “Future Leaders” in the field of arbitration. She has authored many publications on the subject, and is regularly invited to give conferences. She has also taught international commercial arbitration at Queen Mary University in London. Sara is a member of numerous professional associations, and is also a founding member of the International Arbitration Charity Ball.

David V. Tupper

David is a partner at the Calgary office of Blakes, Cassels & Graydon LLP. His litigation practice involves all aspects of corporate/commercial litigation with an emphasis on securities law, construction law, insurance law, environmental law, and oil and gas law. He also maintains a considerable advisory practice in connection with environmental issues, property and liability policies, and reinsurance losses. He is and has been counsel in numerous arbitrations dealing with a diversity of issues, ranging from energy issues to construction and contract issues, and has acted as an umpire in insurance matters. He is a frequent writer and presenter and has been ranked in a number of leading publications.
