Sam Sele is a highly skilled mediator with more than 10 years of expertise in facilitating resolution and fostering collaboration in the field of energy development in Canada.
Sam’s interest in conflict resolution and community engagement began as a child growing up in the Liberian village of Fangonda. Here, in the absence of a formal legal system, he learned firsthand the importance of interest-based negotiations. In situations of conflict, the village elders would mediate by calling the parties together and helping them to explore each other’s interests, to develop a common understanding, and to encourage the parties to generate options that would satisfy all involved. Building on these experiences, Sam has put his belief in the importance of interest-based negotiations into practice.
Sam has held a pivotal role in the establishment and growth of an effective Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program at the Canada Energy Regulator (CER). His commitment to promoting constructive dialogue and finding mutually beneficial solutions has earned him a reputation for excellence in his field.
Sam’s academic background complements his professional achievements. After earning a Bachelor of Science from the University of Minnesota he attained a Master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Development from the University of Calgary, equipping him with a deep understanding of the environmental, social, and economic aspects of energy projects.
