Roger had a 24 year career with Sears Canada in human resources assignments, including Director of Human Resources. As a senior member of the HR management team, he participated in establishing, communicating and maintaining the corporate Human Resources strategic plan and was responsible for developing and implementing the HR strategy in the following business functions: Information Technology, Finance, Human Resources, Acceptance (Credit) Corporation, Strategic Planning and In-house Legal Department. He made significant contributions to the development and facilitation of training programs for Sears Canada that dealt with employee relations issues including workplace violence prevention and response, mutual respect in the workplace, and coaching for performance improvement.
From 2000 to his retirement, Roger was an accomplished conflict resolution consultant with his own successful firm, Just Resolutions. He interned with, and worked closely with, Agree Incorporated as a valued Affiliate and team member. Roger obtained his Chartered Mediator designation in 2003 and was a roster mediator, Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program in Toronto and Ottawa. In his conflict management practice he provided mediation, investigation, workplace assessment and restoration services, as well as conflict management training. Roger coached and mentored participants in conflict resolution workshops including Osgoode Hall Law School’s – ADR Symposium for Health Care Professionals, York University’s ADR Certificate Program and the Industrial Relations Centre at Queen’s University. He was a frequent public speaker on workplace topics including harassment investigations, conflict resolution options and mediation.
For many years, Roger served on the Board of Directors for the ADR Institute of Ontario providing insightful human resource guidance and business acumen.
Roger was a true gentleman with an exceptional ability to connect with people and quickly earn their trust and respect. He modelled integrity and courtesy in every interaction. He will be missed by his friends and colleagues at Agree Incorporated and by his many friends at ADRIC and throughout the ADR community.
