Ekin Cinar is an associate in Dentons’ Litigation and Dispute Resolution and Employment and Labour groups. She is a dual-qualified lawyer (Ontario and Istanbul). Ekin’s practice focuses on commercial litigation, arbitration and investor-state arbitration with particular expertise in matters related to the construction, energy, mining and shipping sectors. In addition to her commercial litigation and arbitration practice, she also represents employers in wrongful and constructive dismissal civil actions, human rights tribunal applications and labour board proceedings.
Ekin helps her clients to protect and operate their businesses in distressed situations and overcome their disputes. She is known for her critical-thinking abilities, and her clients’ specific business objectives are her priority.
Before transitioning to practice in Canada, Ekin worked in Türkiye for nearly ten years, advising a wide range of local and international clients on their disputes. She has acted as counsel in numerous international arbitration proceedings in relation to construction, mergers and acquisitions, shipping and agency matters, and gained experience in international commercial arbitration and investor-state arbitration. Ekin also has experience in cross-border enforcement proceedings.
Ekin is based in Toronto and works in English, French, and Turkish. She also holds a Foreign Legal Consultant Permit issued by the Law Society of Ontario which enables her to advise in matters related to Turkish law in Ontario.
