Michael Burnett, founder, and president of Burnett Risk Control International LLC, Charlotte, North Carolina, United States – has been an attorney for over 30 years and is an expert on sexual abuse. He serves as a claim valuation consultant, expert witness, mediator, and insurance coverage counsel. He works with religious, non-profit, and for-profit entities, abuse survivors, insurers, attorneys, and claims specialists. He helps implement risk control policies to prevent sexual abuse and to properly handle abuse claims. He achieves expedited, compassionate, and cost-effective resolution of abuse claims, with the goal of facilitating the greatest measure of healing for abuse survivors and affected communities.
Michael has contributed to the resolution of thousands of sexual abuse claims. His most gratifying work is the transformative experience of accompanying sexual abuse survivors on their journey toward healing. His experience is that opportunities for healing are heightened when institutions and insurers authentically engage survivors with respect, humility, empathy, and with a spirit of contrition and atonement.
