He was a prominent figure in the discipline of comparative law internationally and the leading Canadian expert on arbitration.

Brierley, qui fut professeur et doyen à la Faculté de droit de l’Université McGill. Figure marquante de la discipline du droit comparé à travers le monde, il fut à son époque l’expert incontesté de l’arbitrage au Canada.
La conférence commémorative John E.C. Brierley est présentée par l’Université McGill et son équipe de recherche Justice privée et État de droit, avec la participation de la section québécoise de l’Association du Barreau Canadien et de la Chaire L. Yves Fortier.
